Terms and Conditions
What this site is, what you may do on it, and what the association undertakes. Using the site means accepting these terms.

1. Who runs this site
potamiacarnival.gr is run by the association «Λαογραφικός & Πολιτιστικός Σύλλογος Ποταμιάς “ΔΙΟΝΥΣΟΣ”», a Greek non-profit σωματείο seated in Potamia, Thassos (—). Contact: karnavalipotamias@gmail.com.
The site documents and serves the Potamia Carnival and the association's cultural work: the video and photo archive, news, event information, live streams, the raffle results, float participation tools, and members' business. Using the site means accepting these terms; if you don't accept them, don't use it.
2. The content is satire — «πιπεράτο»
The carnival is a Dionysian satirical tradition. Parade sketches, scripts and archive footage contain crude humour, ribald language and satire of current events and public figures — the site marks such material with the carnival's own word, «πιπεράτο», and where possible with a timestamp from which the spice starts.
It is performance and folk satire, not factual reporting or a statement of the association's views, and no offence to any real person is intended. If satire concerning you crosses the line from rude to harmful, use §6 — we will listen.
We deliberately use a content notice rather than an age gate; parents and viewers decide for themselves. If rude folk humour is not for you, the marked content is easy to avoid.
3. Accounts
- You must provide a working email address; keep your credentials to yourself; you are responsible for activity under your account.
- Children under 15 need parental consent (see Privacy Policy §8).
- Roles (commenter, float owner, editor, …) are granted and may be revoked by the association. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
- You can delete your account at any time at your account page.
4. User content (comments, float submissions, archive contributions)
When you post or upload anything — comments, float names, descriptions, scripts, music, cue files, photos, videos, digital-archive material:
- It stays yours. You grant the association a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, adapt (e.g. transcode, subtitle, excerpt), publish and archive it for the purposes of the carnival and the association's cultural mission, including keeping it in the permanent archive. For digital-archive donations this licence is perpetual — that is the point of an archive — and will be confirmed with you when you donate.
- You promise you may give it. You hold the rights (or permission) to what you upload, including music rights for float cues and the consent of people identifiable in private material you contribute.
- You stay responsible for it. Don't post anything unlawful, defamatory (satire lives here, personal attacks don't), infringing, or harmful. We moderate comments and float content and may remove content that breaks these terms; substantial moderation decisions can be contested at karnavalipotamias@gmail.com.
- Float participation runs under the association's parade rules (deadlines, acceptance into the running order, technical requirements). Acceptance decisions belong to the association.
5. The archive, copyright, and what is ours
- The association's own works — the site, its design, texts, logos, the carnival's brand marks, films and photographs produced by or for the association — are protected under Greek copyright law (Ν.2121/1993) and international treaties. Personal, non-commercial viewing and sharing by link are welcome; republication or commercial use needs written permission.
- The archive is decades of amateur and volunteer recordings of a village festival. Long parade films inevitably capture incidental material — music playing in the square, banners, costumes referencing well-known works, spectators. We publish this material in good faith as cultural documentation of a public event. We claim no rights over third-party works that appear incidentally within it.
- Embedded players (YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch) remain governed by those platforms' terms.
6. Content that infringes your rights — tell us, we’ll fix it
We would rather take something down than fight about it. If anything on this site infringes your copyright, your image/privacy rights, or any other right:
- Notify us first at karnavalipotamias@gmail.com (subject: «Takedown») or through the contact form, choosing “Content takedown”, with: (a) the exact URL (and timestamp for video), (b) what right of yours is affected and why, (c) your name and contact, and (d) a statement that your notice is accurate and in good faith.
- We acknowledge receipt, review promptly and in good faith, and where the claim holds we remove or disable the material — typically within 14 days of a substantiated notice, faster for clear-cut cases. Given the nature of archival footage and hours-long recordings, some assessments (locating a person in a three-hour tape, checking the provenance of a 1990s recording) take longer; we will keep you informed rather than keep you waiting silently.
- Where content came from a user, we may inform them of the notice and of our decision, and they may respond; we tell you the outcome and reasons.
- Repeated infringers lose their accounts.
This procedure is the route the association publicly commits to; it costs nothing and requires no lawyer. It does not limit any statutory rights you have.
7. The raffle
The raffle is a physical fundraiser conducted by the association under its own responsibility and applicable permit requirements. The site sells no tickets and takes no payments; it only publishes the prize list and the drawn results, and provides a claim-contact form for winners. Published results are informational; the physical draw record kept by the association is authoritative. Prizes, claim windows and claim conditions are as announced per draw.
8. Association elections
The elections area is a members-only tool of the association, governed by the association's statute (καταστατικό) and Greek association law before these terms. Unless and until the statute provides for electronic voting, the legally binding result of a board election is the one produced by the general assembly in person, and the site publishes it as the record; any online voting round is clearly labelled on results pages as either the statute-recognised channel or an advisory/parallel one. Voting secrecy and verifiability guarantees are described in the Privacy Policy §2.5. Election disputes follow the statute and the law (Ν.281/1914 art. 9), not these terms.
9. AI-assisted features
Some tools offer AI-generated drafts (float scripts, music, social images). They are drafts: you review, you decide, you are responsible for what you submit or publish, exactly as with anything typed by hand. AI features are marked in the interface, are quota-limited, may be changed or withdrawn at any time, and their output is not guaranteed to be accurate, original, or fit for purpose. Generated media that could be mistaken for authentic footage or real persons is labelled as generated. Do not use the AI tools to produce content that would break §4.3.
10. Live streams
Live streams show a public village event in real time. Stream availability and quality are best-effort — it is a carnival, not a broadcaster. Chat, where embedded, belongs to the host platform and its rules. Recordings enter the archive under §5, with the Privacy Policy §3 objection route available.
11. Availability, links, and liability
- The site is provided free, as-is, by a volunteer association. We aim for it to work and to be accurate (dates, times, results), but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or error-free content, and event details can change — the association's official announcements prevail.
- External links (including the merch store, which is operated by a third-party platform) lead to sites we don't control and aren't responsible for.
- To the extent permitted by Greek law, the association's liability for damage arising from use of the site is limited to intent and gross negligence. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, or consumer rights that cannot be waived.
12. Changes, law, and forum
- We may update these terms; the current version is always here with its date. Substantive changes are announced on-site; continued use after notice means acceptance.
- These terms are governed by Greek law; competent courts are those of the association's seat (Kavala), without prejudice to mandatory consumer jurisdiction rules.
- If a clause proves invalid, the rest stand.
- Consumers may also use the EU ODR platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr) — noting that the site sells nothing.
- The Greek text is the legally binding one. This English version is provided for convenience; where the two differ, the Greek governs.
